Examples of How to Use the iPads to Support Learning

Today we will be sharing some examples of how iPads can be used in the classroom to encourage interaction and support teaching and learning.

For the following examples we owe a big thank you to Terri Long in Children, Care and Education.

“I have been using ‘Showme’ in class, this allows students to carry out independent research into a topic, and then create an interactive slide show they can then share with their peers. Learners have enjoyed the interactive aspects of this App, particularly in how they are able to use the voice record facilities along with the drawing app to create visual representations of the ideas they have discovered.

Capture I have been using the ‘Human Body’ app to allow students to investigate body systems and their functions, students have enjoyed using the interactive features that allow them to carry out a virtual tour of a body system, relate this to other body systems and how they interrelate, the dissection tool has proved really popular as students are able to peel layers away at a time with none of the usual shrieks associated with the real thing!

Majority of students downloaded the App for themselves and have successfully used it to revise for timed assessments and to improve their levels of independent learning.

I have also been using the ‘Socrative’ app to generate quizzes and short plenary tests, The students like the fact that they are in control and can use their own device to play along! The quiz works well both teacher and student paced and is quick and easy to use in terms of generating the quizzes. I have used it to test knowledge prior to the launch of a topic and after to check learning. The emailed report is useful and does allow you to identify those learners who may need additional support with their understanding.”

Also, Gill Das over in HBU has been looking for a fun way to carry out some re-capping and revision and has decided to go for a different approach and to use QR codes in the form of a quiz!

How do you think you could implement some interactive technology into your lessons?
